Sometimes we wish we could turn back the hands of time. It would seem magical to relive certain moments and undo others. Unfortunately, until some inventor completes an operational time machine, such goals are wishful thinking. However, though we cannot manipulate time, we can affect its effects.

The ultimate objective of anti-aging proponents is to eliminate all aging and diseases in humans. However, until that happens, several methods are available to slow down the aging process and provide people with a youthful appearance. That includes physical fitness and the intake of vital vitamins and minerals.

When constructing an anti-aging diet, you can take some general approaches to produce optimum results. Daily eat the proper type and number of servings contained on the USDA’s food pyramid. Reduce the amount of sugar, salt, and saturated fat that you consume. Lower the number of calories that you consume daily. Did you know that one Big Mac sandwich contains enough calories for a single day?

Unfortunately, no single food qualifies as an all-purpose anti aging foods. However, researchers have discovered that several types of food can have anti-aging effects, including these anti aging foods:
  • avocados

  • berries

  • cruciferous vegetables (i.e. broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, radishes, and turnips)
  • garlic

  • ginger

  • nuts

  • pasta (whole meal)

  • rice (whole meal)

  • soya

  • water

  • watermelon
Another excellent anti-aging food is fish oil and the Omega-3 that it contains. Fish oil originates from the tissues of fatty fish. These are fish that are naturally fatty (i.e. tuna and salmon) rather than ones that ate everything in sight at the krill and algae buffet. Fish oil provides several benefits to humans, many of which are due to the Omega-3 that it contains.

For instance, experts believe that fish oil can provide an array of health benefits, including lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and a reduction in the risk of acquiring coronary heart disease. They also believe that it could provide benefits for those suffering from diseases such as arthritis, asthma, lupus, and certain types of cancer.

Yet another benefit of fish oil (and its Omega-3) is as one of the anti aging foods. Omega-3 functions as one of the Essential Fatty Acids (EFA), which humans can only obtain through food. Did you know that about 99% of All US citizens consume a diet that is low in EFAs? A deficiency in EFAs can result in dry, leathery skin and prune-like premature wrinkles. Meanwhile, increasing your intake of EFAs can keep your skin smooth and shiny.

Research has verified the anti-aging effects of Omega-3. It can help those with photo dermatitis (extreme sensitivity to sunlight) become less sensitive to UV rays. It can improve the treatment of those with the disease psoriasis (disease that affects the skin and joints), when combined with medication. It can even be beneficial in treating acne.

While no miracle anti-aging food can halt the sands of time, certain foods can slow down the effects of aging. For instance, the Omega-3 in fish oil can help to prevent disease and rejuvenate skin. Eat it up!
