Did you know that omega 3 fish oil is great as an ” eye vitamin”?  You have probably heard many people rave about how healthy fish oil is for the heart and joints but there are so many more things this supplement can do for you.

For healthy eyes – omega-3 fish oil is a great supplement to take. Adults tend to have fewer eye problems when they have adequate intakes of omega 3 fatty acids (DHA & EPA) .

An important study that some scientists performed 2007 revealed that those who weekly eat a minimum of two servings of fish are less prone to acquiring age-related muscular degeneration (AMD).  In the United States, AMD is the top cause of permanent vision loss among those who are over 65-years-old.

In fact, those in the study who consumed the most omega 3 fatty acids had a significantly lower risk (nearly 40%) of acquiring AMD than those who consumed the least amount of fish!

Furthermore, women could be particularly at risk due to a deficiency of omega-3 in their diet. Another study (2005) showed a woman increasing her intake of essential fatty acids (EFAs) could aid in preventing dry eye syndrome (DES).

For instance, women who weekly ate a minimum of five servings of tuna were about two-thirds less risk of acquiring DES than those women who only ate one serving of tuna weekly! Fishes with low omega-3 fatty acid levels provided less safety from DES.

Omega-3 fish oil is helpful in reducing your risk of suffering a heart attack and acquiring coronary heart disease. Studies have shown that fish oil can also help to reduce your blood pressure and lower bad cholesterol.

While researchers are still conducting studies, many experts believe that fish oil can also benefit those with diseases such as arthritis, asthma, cancer (certain types), colitis, and lupus.

The studies showing the importance of  consuming omega-3 fatty acids are consistently growing. Don’t be on the sidelines – omega 3 fish oil is one supplement you should be taking daily whether as an “eye vitamin” or as a dietary health supplement for heart health.
