Fish oil has Omega-3 fatty acids, namely docosahexaenoic acid, also known as DHA and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) that have components, which can help in the regulation of hormones. Of course, everyone knows that acne is caused by hormonal imbalances and disturbances. With Vitamin E and antioxidants, fish oil for acne is considered effective.

The science of fish oil for acne can be traced to how DHA and EPA are broken down as it enters the body to make substances such as prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are hormone-type substances that will prevent the formation of excess sebum. Sebum is present in hair follicles that are present throughout the human body. Fish oil will lessen inflammation, and will stop the body from overproducing sebum that initiates acne because it clogs pores and causes spots to appear.

Fish oil also has other benefits. It helps in the decrease of cholesterol and the lowering of blood pressure that is very beneficial to people who are at risk for coronary heart diseases. Studies also show that aside from using fish oil for acne treatment, it is also effective in treating depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Nowadays, the use of fish oil supplements and fish oil in general for the treatment of acne is still being studied and researched upon. But primary investigations have showed positive effects.

Fish oil and Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in all fishes, especially in fatty fishes such as mackerel, salmon, sardines, and herring. It is advisable to eat fish at least twice a week. If you are not a fan to the idea of having a fish in your diet, you can go with the supplements where in you should have an average dosage of 2g-4g per day to avoid side effects.

Fish oil pills are an essential source of Omega 3 fatty acids and other nutrients that the body needs. However, like any other, too much of it can also be harmful to one’s health. Make sure that you know how much is enough and how much is too much.
