Muscle Building Supplements Need Fish Oil
Muscle building supplements have become a part of the daily diet for body builders who want to get those rock hard abs and bulging biceps.
It has long been believed that to have that rock hard and well toned body, one must spend a lot of time doing weight lifting exercises and an equal amount of money in muscle building supplements.
But the hard truth is that even though these supplements can be effective in helping you gain that well sculpted body, it is inadequate and less effective when used alone. Many of these supplements are stock full of dietary protein, which is very much needed to build muscle cells but lack the ingredient needed to synthesize the protein - testosterone.
Building Muscles
Testosterone is needed to build new muscles and enlarge existing muscle fibers. For without it, no matter how much protein you ingest via muscle building supplements, it still will not be converted to increase the muscle size.
It has been proven, however, that Vitamin A is vital to the production of testosterone in the body, and thus, directing the body to build more muscle tissue.
Vitamin A or retinol has been found to deposit itself in the testes, the major organ responsible for production of testosterone. Upon being converted into its active form, retinoic acid, the testes is stimulated to produce more testosterone that is responsible for muscle growth.
Another substance needed by the body builders is fats. Contrary to popular belief, fats are a prerequisite to build muscles. This is because the components needed to make testosterone in the body are made from fats. It is ill-advised to take in large amounts of saturated fats since these are the type of oils that are converted to unsightly flab.
But it is beneficial to have a proper intake of essential fatty acids such as Omega-3, as these are the ones that are more readily converted into enzymes and hormones in the body. Fish oil also seems to inhibit the enzyme that changes testosterone (good) into dihydroxytestosterone (bad) in both men and women, leading to better hormone balance and a lowering of risk of certain cancers.
The Advantages of Fish Oil
It is interesting to note that the major components of fish oil supplements are Vitamin A, D, and Omega-3 fatty acids. As mentioned above, both Vitamin A and Omega-3 fatty acids are quite essential in the production of testosterone, which is the primary hormone needed to build muscles.
Furthermore, since many muscle building supplements are high in protein, they tend to deplete the Vitamin A levels of the user. A daily fish oil regimen becomes even more important here as it helps to restore healthy Vitamin A levels.
Another added bonus of fish oil is that it helps lower Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL) and helps burn fat faster. LDL or bad cholesterol is primarily responsible for the fat deposits that can lead to stroke and other cardiac problems. These are also one of the major components of the fats that are stored in our love handles and pot bellies.
By significantly decreasing this bad type of cholesterol and aiding in the burning of fats, you are reducing your fatty deposits and hastening your body building progress. This is something that many of the muscle building supplements being touted in the fitness magazine are incapable of doing.
